Chuck Dixon to do a Silken Ghost mini-series

The Silken Ghost, the mysterious fighter from Way of the Rat, is getting her own five-part mini-series. What is it about female protagonists getting five-issue minis? Five-issue minis are unusual enough as it is. Odd to hear of these two in the same day!

DC brings back western star Cinnamon

Cinnamon will “return” in a new five-issue miniseries. The art looks great, but I’m less thrilled that this isn’t a proper western but an update of the character set in modern times. Check out the full story by Jen Contino and then discuss it in the forum!

Christian Comic Companies

Those of you looking for wholesome comics for young children without checking them all first for borderline “mature” content… look no further! My son and I have been reading Power Mark comics put out by the comic company of the same name. The story is set in a near, but highly technological future where reading …

Archie – I tried

Honestly, I tried. Phil pointed out that someone did a search for Archie news on our site, so (obliging soul that I am) we realized we had overlooked a fine comic company! I added them to the navbar and our news categories, and then headed on over to the Archie site to see what news …

Superhero Hype, among others, announced today that prolific comics-to-film screenwriter David Goyer (Blade, Dark City) will be the next writer to take a crack at a screenplay for a big-screen treatment of The Dark Knight. Goyer, who also co-wrote several JSA arcs with Geoff Johns, is known for his ability to keep comic book characters …

John Wells (Fanzing contributor and the brains behind a certain metahuman resource company used by a San Fran superhero firm) has passed on this note from Kurt Busiek. As I don’t have a link, here is the text: It’s true, I’m sorry to say. POWER COMPANY is ending with #18. (See the extended entry below …

Epic Comics RETURN!

Way back when, Marvel Comics created epic — a place for creator owned comics… differing takes on other corners of the Marvel Universe, and the like. Think Vertigo before there was Vertigo. Marvel’s bringing epic back. And they’ll have open submissions… soon. Pretty simple process for writers. Send ‘em a script, a W-9, and an …

Hot off the steam of the Daredevil film comes the announcement that the longtime Marvel gangster villain The Kingpin will get his own series… at first a mini, it graduated to ongoing status recently. The first dozen issues will fill in the Kingpin of crime’s backstory, while #13-on will take him into the future. And …

Back to the Batcave

All right, this one doesn’t really qualify as “news”, being a few weeks old, but I’ve just read the review of “Back to the Batcave” over at The Pulse and I realized I never shared my thoughts on it. The movie is really two movies: a campy modern adventure in which Adam West, Burt Ward …

Maguire NOT a wuss!

To follow up on Phil’s post below…this thing about Maguire’s back pain keeping him from being in the sequel appears to be just a rumor. As Sarah “Scribbler” Beach points out over on the Dixonverse board, if he were off of the sequel to one of the year’s biggest blockbusters, it would be much bigger …

Avatar Press has announced a new book by Alan Moore, reprinting a lengthy essay he wrote in the ’80s on writing comics. The original was printed in serialized format in a British fanzine, and this is it’s first appearance in a single volume. Written in 1985, the “Miracle Man” and “Watchmen” era, it offers a …

New Batman Animated Movie!

Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman! I loved “Mask of the Phantasm”. “Sub-Zero” had its moments, too. Both of them were WAY above the quality level of anything the live action movies tried to do in terms of character development and a coherent plot. Amazing how a voice actor and some cartoonists can bring more to …

Blatant Shilling for a friend

Our good friend, painter Rosalyn Terrill, is currently recuperating on her back due to an injury and getting ready to deliver her baby in a little over a month. In order to help her raise money, I designed some ebay auctions to auction off three one-and-only prints of her digitally-painted pieces: two Nightwings and one …

Starman TV Series in the Works

Just came across a nifty site with info about a possible Starman TV series. From the creators of Smallville (YAY) and Birds of Prey (BOO), it will focus on the Knight family dynamics, which is a definite plus. In my opinion, it’s one comic that’s just itching for adaptation to television. Here’s hoping that it’s …
