WORSE THAN BATMAN AND ROBIN?

If you thought the publicity photos of Halle Berry as Catwoman were terrible, just wait till you see this. Between this god-awful addition to the Batman canon and the never-ending trainwreck that is the Superman movie, I think Warner Bros has officially squandered all good will they engendered after casting Christian Bale as the Dark …

Youngest inker work in SSCA #3

Our own Scott McCullar has introduced to the world a startling new inking talent: his daughter Rachel! That’s his seven and a half year old daughter. Scott’s latest Yellow Jacket story “Feeling The Sting” debuted this week in Shooting Star Comics Anthology #3. I’ve already seen the art in previews and I have to say: …

Okay, so it’s foreign and I’ll never see it

Remember that guy who fell into a coma in 1984 when Terminator came out and woke up when the star of that movie is governor of California? OK. Now imagine being behind the Iron Curtain during that same period of time. In Good bye, Lenin!, a man has to protect his frail mother from the …

Who’s ripping off Signs?

I saw this trailer for The Village and saw a number of visual elements that seemed reminiscent of the movie “Signs,” to the point that I wondered if this was just a ripoff of that film. Oh, guess not. The reason it’s so similar is that this is M. Night Shyamalan’s new film! Joy!

PIXAR breaks free of the mouse!

This has been coming for a while, but I honestly didn’t know that it would happen: Pixar will not have Disney as its distributor after 2006. The final films will be the awesome superhero film “The Incredibles” (from Brad Bird, the genius behind “The Iron Giant”) and one more, probably “Cars.” For Pixar, this is …

GOYER GOES PLATINUM

Blade: Trinity director (and longtime co-writer of DC’s JSA)David Goyer has signed on to direct Unique, a sci-fi thriller based on an upcoming graphic novel from Platinum Studios. This development certainly bodes well for other Platinum Megaverse projects. Projects like, say, Love Bytes…

GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS

Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone… The name is Joshua Elder — former DC Comics intern, former Wizard magazine associate editor and newest member of the Monitor Duty family. Mike Hutchinson was nice enough (or insane enough, depending on your perspective) to invite me to become a regular poster to Monitor Duty, so look …

Dawn of the Dead is coming!

Dawn of the Dead has a new trailer, and I wish I could see the trailer in a theater. When it gets to the end, you’ll understand why. For a zombie movie, this looks quite well done and I think it will be much better than the overhyped 28 Days (which, I’m sorry, had an …

New “Passion” trailer

The Passion of The Christ has a new trailer combining the best of the two previous trailers. This new one is two minutes long and has a bit more story to it. I will say this: if this music is from the soundtrack, the sales of that alone will pay for the movie!

Hugh Jackman is…KRULL!

Oh, no, wait…he’s Van Helsing! Sorry, the glave threw me. If not for the crummy CGI, this movie would look great. After all…it has Frankenstein, the Wolf-Man and Dracula! Last movie to have all of them together was the execreble “Monster Squad.”

I’m doing you all a favor. Wink wink, nudge nudge. As for the awards that will be …

Okay, the song is tapped out. Stop it.

I really liked the song “All Star” by Smash Mouth. I loved it when it was featured at the end of “Mystery Men.” I liked it when it was in “Shrek”, but the song was a bit overexposed by then. I couldn’t believe that the song turned up again at the end of “Rat Race”, …

Lots of surprises on the Oscar noms complete list. Check it out: Bill Murray as best actor for “Lost In Translation“, a film I’ve yet to see but you will all remember that even the trailer amazed me many months back. Surprising everyone who said that the acting was good but he wasn’t going to …
