  • WORSE THAN BATMAN AND ROBIN?

Posted on January 30th, 2004 Josh Elder No comments

If you thought the publicity photos of Halle Berry as Catwoman were terrible, just wait till you see this. Between this god-awful addition to the Batman canon and the never-ending trainwreck that is the Superman movie, I think Warner Bros has officially squandered all good will they engendered after casting Christian Bale as the Dark Knight.

  • Youngest inker work in SSCA #3

Posted on January 30th, 2004 thehutch No comments

Our own Scott McCullar has introduced to the world a startling new inking talent: his daughter Rachel!

That’s his seven and a half year old daughter.

Scott’s latest Yellow Jacket story “Feeling The Sting” debuted this week in Shooting Star Comics Anthology #3. I’ve already seen the art in previews and I have to say: I cannot detect which inks are done by Scott and which are done by Rachel. I couldn’t even draw a smiley face when I was 7!

I have to apologize to the gang from Shooting Star Comics for not spotlighting their new book when it debuted on Wednesday; the date snuck up on me! I will try to post a review of the book on our review site, but in the meantime let me just say that it is their best book yet.

That isn’t just meaningless praise. I thought SSCA #s 1 and 2 were good, but they had their strong and weak points. I managed to snag a preview of #3 and every story is enjoyable, there are no letdowns, and one of them is LOL hilarious.

  • Okay, so it’s foreign and I’ll never see it

Remember that guy who fell into a coma in 1984 when Terminator came out and woke up when the star of that movie is governor of California? OK. Now imagine being behind the Iron Curtain during that same period of time.

In Good bye, Lenin!, a man has to protect his frail mother from the knowledge that the Soviet Union is gone, Germany is reunited and capitalism is the new system. Intriguing premise…and it looks hilarious, even subtitled.

  • Who’s ripping off Signs?

Posted on January 30th, 2004 thehutch No comments

I saw this trailer for The Village and saw a number of visual elements that seemed reminiscent of the movie “Signs,” to the point that I wondered if this was just a ripoff of that film.

Oh, guess not. The reason it’s so similar is that this is M. Night Shyamalan’s new film! Joy!
