what do Spider-Man and Syria have in common?
Posted on February 5th, 2004 No commentsThey don’t have anything in common. Spider-Man is what Wal-Mart and Syria have in common. Although Spider-Man is interestingly an asset, or a feature, as a product from Syria, that Wal-Mart sells.
So Spider-Man is an export from member #2 of the Axis of Evil. This sounds like something Mark Millar wrote, rather than real life.

ROTK DVD comes out much earlier
Posted on February 5th, 2004 No commentsThe Return of the King DVD will be out in May, since there is no reason to hold it until fall to hype the next installment. The extended version will be out in September, not November…but that’s still quite a wait. (I’m sure it can’t be moved up because they’re still working on it.) Box sets of both versions of the trilogy will be available as well.
Box sets? Can there really be anyone who loved these movies who hasn’t bought them already?

Fifteen franchises for Marvel?
Posted on February 5th, 2004 No commentsI’m getting old. I still remember when Marvel movies meant the most god-awful straight-to-video crap (Captain America, The Punisher with Dolph Lundgren, the never-shown Fantastic Four). Then X-Men finally turned things around, followed by Spider-Man and, in some respects, Hulk. Now the word is that Marvel wants to have 15 ongoing movie franchises!
Meanwhile, DC Comics hasn’t had a truly great superhero film since 1989′s Batman, tempered only by their success in animated versions of their characters. (I believe “Mask of the Phantasm” is a superior Batman movie, but it wasn’t really a phenomenal success.)

do you remember the Interman?
Posted on February 5th, 2004 No commentsI’ve never read the title, being out of my price range, but many people did buy the full-color indy-published graphic novel (that combination is as rare as accuracy in a Michael Moore film) and enjoyed it. I simply envy the skills and powers of Jeff Parker in creating this work and this concept.
In any case, it’s been a year since the book’s publication and. Newsarama has interviewed Mr. Parker regarding the interrim and specifically to ask him about The Interman Volume 2, as well as other elements of professional success.
Some of those elements include an odd convocation of blunders. I’m pleased that all this has worked for him.
