New JLU Episode Tonight!
Posted on January 29th, 2005 No commentsDon’t forget, JLU is on in less than two hours! Cartoon Network, 7:30 PM Central Time. Don’t miss it, since Cartoon Network apparently is now overloaded with so much anime junk that they only have one half hour of broadcasting time each week to show Justice League. These days, if you miss it, you won’t see the episode again for months and only then if you’re watching the TV listings like a hawk. Thank God for Torrents.
Next week’s episode is the Green Arrow and Black Canary episode. I plan to call Scott McCullar every 1/2 hour for 48 hours before it’s on just to make sure he doesn’t miss it.

A brief break with protocol
Posted on January 29th, 2005 No commentsI’m going to break with protocol a moment and discuss both politics and religion!
I just wanted to remind everyone to think of and pray for the Iraqi people and our troops who are guarding their polls this weekend. The voting has already started, and in Australia they are dancing in the streets to celebrate. However, it’s going to be a much more dangerous time in Iraq, where terrorists are expected to try to frighten people away from the polls with bombings and other violence.
We truly are blessed in this country, where the de rigeur elections and peaceful transitions of power are taken as a given. We sometimes forget that it is still not the usual way of the world, and in many lands of the Earth having a say in how you are governed is a pipe dream.
Now, I’d like to end with a few brief words from an Iraqi posted at Iraq, The Model
On Sunday, the sun will rise on the land of Mesopotamia. I can’t wait, the dream is becoming true and I will stand in front of the box to put my heart in it.

Tim Burton does animation again
Posted on January 25th, 2005 No commentsTim Burton’s Corpse Bride will debut this October. The animation is just like Nightmare Before Christmas, with the Addams-ian style of the characters (dark rings around the big eyes and all) and everything. However, “Nightmare” was always hampered by the fact that it was a movie with Santa Claus in it, which made it just too disturbing. This film is a straight-forward pre-teen horror film and thus it may prove much more enjoyable.

Aside from a tiny bit of audio and a shot of the Tardis dematerializing, there’s nothing to see. This is basically a teaser that would be exciting if it popped up on TV and you hadn’t even known it was on the way, but it is hardly worth seeking out to watch.

Such as Pennyworth. Alfred Pennyworth. A two-parter in Detective will explore the able butler’s past before he joined the Waynes.
Oh, and as payment for my labors I got a peek at next week’s Nightwing #102. All I can say is: you’re gonna love it!

Posted on January 23rd, 2005 No commentsThe cover and release date has been announced for NICK LANDIME VERSUS THE WORLD CRIME LEAGUE #1. I’ve been looking forward to Erik Burnham’s Nick Landime getting his own comic for two years, and it’s finally arrived!
Well…arriving soon.
I can’t wait to see Erik at Micro-Con in Minneapolis and get a copy of this signed. I just hope this year he arranges to have some books there. (Just teasing, bud!)

Where’ve I been
Posted on January 14th, 2005 No commentsYuck. I’ve been struck down by an ugly, nasty cold. Did I say cold? I meant Thrax. Vicious chills, high fever, and more mucus than you can shake a hanky at. We’re talking as insidious a disease as I’ve had in years.
And when I recover I won’t be around much for a while, as I have another comic script due in a week. This leads me to a question.
For the scripts I’ve written over the past five years, I’ve used Microsoft Word with Steven Grant’s comic script macros. It isn’t the best. I’m always getting malfunctions and errors and bugs, and I don’t find it easy to modify. For instance: Going back a page and adding a panel always causes problems because it creates a new panel using the number of the last page, not the page you’re on. Fixing that means going into the source code and…well, it’s a time-consuming headache…and a good script program is supposed to make you more productive.
I’ve hunted for a better program for years, but haven’t found it.
If anyone knows of an actual comic scripting program or plug-in, please click on my name and drop me a line.
I have to go sneeze for the next hour.

The lady is right

(That’s the online messenger software that lets you log on to AIM, ICQ, IRC chat, Yahoo messenger and MSN messenger all at once with one small program. They just released version 3.0, which is nothing less than awesome. Oh, and my AIM name is “fanzinger” and ICQ # is 70101007, in case you wondered.)
Anyway, I return to find that my buddy Suceress has sent me a message during the night, asking a very good question:
I know you’re away, but I had to share the horror. How on earth did they let THIS pass for a cover?
I have to believe that this is not really the cover that will be on the stands. Surely it’s just a rough draft and it was all the artist had done at the time. Right?
