So…is that the end of Homestar Runner?

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

The Brothers Chaps have never made it official, but it is looking like Homestar Runner is over. So far in 2010, following the birth of a new girl, they have posted a message that their production schedule would be infrequent due to the new baby…and followed that with only one new April Fools cartoon and a new main page. This is after a year where their online cartoon series was going gangbusters and spawned a 5-chapter Wii video game.

When Homestar Runner doesn’t even release a Halloween Cartoon, it’s time to ask: is the show over?

Homestar Runner fans used to have a weekly fix of new stuff, but I’m guessing by now everyone’s out of the habit of stopping by. What is baffling is that we were told that this is how the Brothers Chaps made all of their money. They made enough from T-Shirts and other merch to have it be their sole source of income. In other words, they were living the dream of of the Internet age, one that is attainable by a very few in the creative community.

So…wha’ happen? Was their income good enough to subsist on as young people but not as parents? Are they prevented from releasing more cartoons because the show’s in development as a TV show? Are they making a motion picture? What?

For the love of Pete, what’s happening to Homestar Runner?

It had to happen. A Smurfs CGI/Live Action movie.

Hey, Alvin and the Chipmunks made money. So it’s time for Smurfs. Oy.

Hiatus?

I didn’t mean to go on hiatus, but I’m working on a new Metro Med script and it’s taken up all of my evening writing time. I should be back with more posts and podcasts very soon.
