Archie proposes to Veronica?
Posted on May 27th, 2009 No commentsYou heard that right! In Archie #600, Archie Andrews proposes to Veronica Lodge.
Not a dream! Not a hoax! Not an imagina – no, wait, it IS an imaginary story!
Now make way for this special story that takes a look at Archie and his friends after they graduate college! What careers will they seek? Will the friends stay in Riverdale or disperse? What would lead Archie to have marriage on his mind? And why would he choose Veronica over Betty? How will Betty react? Can Archie shake off his klutzy past and hold down a steady job… for more than a month? Two things are certain: with the Lodges as hosts, this will be the biggest wedding Riverdale has ever seen… and the biggest Archie Comics story since the famous “Love Showdown!”
Acclaimed superhero movie producer Michael Uslan draws upon his lifelong love of Archie comic books to write this very special tale, rendered by legendary Archie Comics artist Stan Goldberg! The Archie story of the century begins here… don’t miss it!
ARCHIE #600

On Sale at Comic Specialty Shops: August 19th, 2009
On Sale on Newsstands: September 1st, 2009
32-page, full color comic
$2.50 USCertainly it’s interesting, but it’s no more canonical than “Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again“. And, of course, any story where Archie doesn’t marry Betty is absurd.

Archie to try new fatal mistake
Posted on December 17th, 2006 3 commentsArchie Comics is going to change the look of Archie. Instead of the cartoony appearance that has gone through only minor changes over the last half-century, Archie, Betty, Veronica and the gang will now be drawn as (ahem) “realistic” teenagers. That is, if realistic means that all the girls are underfed 13-year-olds.

Here is my initial reaction.
Read on for my rant about this end to all things good in the universe.

Archie Comics Succumbs To Manga
Posted on December 19th, 2003 No commentsArchie Comics, the seemingly last big comics company to jump on the manga bandwagon, has finally relented and will join their brethern by reshaping Sabrina the Teenage Witch into a manga title. The makeover will come courtesy of Tania del Rio, a winner of Tokyopop’s Rising Stars of Manga contest. This will mark del Rio’s first major comics work.
The new look will make it’s debut with next June’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch #58.

Archie Comics Experiencing Huge Sales
Posted on September 16th, 2003 No commentsThere’s some keen discussion after this Graphitti Designs Presents… NEWSARAMA article about the high sales of Archie Comics. They do very well in the mass-market world, thank you very much, and I think Diamond would do well to mimic Archie’s distribution strategy. All this has been said before, of course–here’s our own treatise on How To Save the Comics Industry, as well as An Alternate Viewpoint

Archie Comics for January
Posted on September 15th, 2003 No commentsSince I’m trying to link to more non-DC announcements, here are the Archie comics being released in January.
Digests are still only $2.39? Why can’t any of the other companies do this?

Archie Contemplating High-end Superhero Reprint Editions
Posted on May 5th, 2003 No commentsNewsarama is reporting that Archie Execs are on the bubble about releasing classic superhero comics from the gold and silver ages in hardcover “Archive”-type editions.
The trepidation is over whether they would sell well enough to justify the cost of such a venture.

Archie – I tried
Posted on March 28th, 2003 No commentsHonestly, I tried. Phil pointed out that someone did a search for Archie news on our site, so (obliging soul that I am) we realized we had overlooked a fine comic company! I added them to the navbar and our news categories, and then headed on over to the Archie site to see what news I might glean about upcoming titles.
I have to say: their site is a great and terrible thing.
“Great” because it has plenty of entertainment for kids and your child may be able to spend hours there looking through comic strips online or engaging in any of the fun activities Archie’s site has. Someone has spent a lot of time making an attractive site with image maps.
“Terrible” because if you don’t like exploring and image map navigation, it can be frustrating. If they have news about upcoming comics on their site, I can’t find it. Oh, and the only thing that’s NOT clickable is their logo, which is too bad because as far as I can tell there isn’t an easy route back to the home page.
Guess I’ll have to wait until a comic news site writes about Archie!
