Podcast #6: Avatar and More
Posted on April 22nd, 2010 1 commentErik and I did a pile of podcasts in January, and it’s taking me a while to edit them. However, I couldn’t let Avatar hit shelves without posting Erik’s thoughts on it and several other films (then in theaters, now on DVD).

Oops! Podcast #5 now added to feeds
Posted on March 7th, 2010 No commentsFor some reason, podcast #5 was not marked to be included in the feeds. This means that if you subscribe via iTunes, you didn’t see it. I’ve now re-saved that episode and you should see it now.
Podcast #6 is being worked on right now. I’m building the post for it.

Podcasts a’comin’!
Posted on March 6th, 2010 No commentsI’m taking some Lynda.com training to become more proficient with my editing software. I’ll have at least one podcast done by the end of this weekend.
Here’s something hilarious for you until then:

Podcast #5 is up…and it’s still 2009!
Posted on January 1st, 2010 No commentsI promised Erik Burnham that I would have all of our older recordings published before the end of 2009… and I have 1/2 hour left to make that promise KEPT. This one’s less than 10 minutes long. Just a brief recording that wasn’t worth throwing out, despite some audio problems, because I relate to Erik an old TV Special that I enjoyed.
I don’t even have any Amazon links for this one, because sadly enough, it was never released on video.

Podcast #4: Chatting about Movies and Star Trek
Posted on December 30th, 2009 No commentsThis started out as a test of my new equipment to see if the sound quality improved (it did). Unfortunately, you should not get two guys with extensive video store clerking experience chatting about random movies. We talked for about 50 minutes! We learn that Erik pronounces “bio-pic” without the hyphen. I tend to be vocabulary-challenged and say “like”, “um” and “you know” way too much. I prepare for an MST3K version of Star Trek, and my brother ruins “Fellowship of the Ring” forever. Also, who wants us to do a list of “Great movies you may not have seen?” (Erik talks over my sarcastic line, “Have you ever heard of The Princess Bride?” Could have been a gem. Oh well.)
Recorded June 30th. I had to laugh when I heard what I say at 55:05.
Mentioned in this podcast:
Erik’s “Creature Stole My Twinkie” T-shirt on Zazzle; we also discuss blogging at his Burnhamania site.Movies, Podcasts, Reviews - Movies 12 Rounds, Batman Wonder Woman Korea Fake, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Black Sheep, Bottle Shock, Chaplin, Comic Book Villains, Destiny Turns On The Radio, Fanboys, Fled, Friday the 13th, Hardware, Iron Man, Judd Apatow, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Knocked Up, L.A. Confidential, Laurence Fishburne, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Lord of the Rings, Monster Squad, My Life, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Pee Wee's Playhouse, Princess Bride, Rambo, Rifftrax, Robert Downey Jr., Seth Rogan, So I Married An Axe Murderer, Star Trek, Star Wars, Terminator, The Hangover, The International, The Reflecting Skin, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Transformers, What's Love Got To Do With It -
Batman Movies, Part 3
Posted on September 12th, 2009 No commentsTune in for our third and final Batman podcast, sponsored by TooManyLongboxes.com. No, we’re not doing the podcast quarterly! We now have better equipment and will turn them around much faster. Here is the last of the three Batman podcasts that I recorded in January with Erik Burnham. The sound is improved, but after this one they should all sound as good as my introduction to this third installment.
Discussed:Batman Begins
The Dark Knight

Posted on June 23rd, 2009 No commentsI’m leaving to pick up my wife while this huge MP3 is being produced. When I get back, this will go live.
Finally!

Could it be?
Posted on May 7th, 2009 No commentsAll this struggling with the poor quality of my podcast recordings… could it really be that my Microsoft LifeChat LX-2000 microphone headset just really sucks?
Tonight, I plugged in a headset that my team uses at work, and it sounds nice. Well, dang. I feel like a doofus.
Podcast, coming up! And the next one I record from scratch should sound awesome!

Batman podcast part 2 is coming
Posted on March 24th, 2009 No commentsI’m determined to get the microphone issues resolved. I know, you think I’d have done this by now, but I’m trying to track down the color-coding schematic for my Logitech surround sound soundcard. Then I have to pull the computer away from the wall and get my skinny little niece to crawl behind it, sit on the floor with a flashlight and rejigger all the wires.
In the meantime, Bat-fans, enjoy this tribute to the 1966 Batman TV show. I’ve found it a treasure trove of information.

Tune in “tomorrow”?
Posted on March 5th, 2009 No commentsJust so there’s no misunderstanding: I ended the podcast with the Batman announcer saying “tune in tomorrow”, but it will be a day or two before the next podcast. I still haven’t resolved the microphone problem.
Plus, I’m going to a midnight showing of Watchmen, and I’ll be posting my review after that. Probably a quickie review.
I’m going to sleep now so I can watch a 150 minute movie at midnight.

Batman Movies, part 1
Posted on March 5th, 2009 1 commentOur first podcast, sponsored by TooManyLongboxes.com. Erik Burnham and I discuss the Batman movies from the serials to the Adam West era. This was an experiment and the sound is a bit mediocre. My apologies to Erik that this took over a month to edit and post. The next one, needless to say, will be better.

Why no podcast yet?
Posted on March 3rd, 2009 No commentsSimple.
Can’t get my microphone to work.
Sorry, folks. Tuesday?

Fricken Fracken Audacity!
Posted on February 1st, 2009 No commentsI finished gathering all my sound bites for finishing up and posting the Podcast today, and when I opened up the master file for the podcast it told me that I had a lot of useless data that it had found and could it delete it. I said yes. It then let me take a look at the podcast…and the first half hour of it was gone!
ARGH!
I got rid of Norton Utilities a while ago because I was sick of paying for it over and over again, especially when every function of it that I used could be easily done by a free program. With one exception: Norton Protected Recycle Bin. I love that feature, and I can’t find a free program that does the same thing. In fact, when I Googled to find a replacement for it, the top results are people complaining about it and considering it useless. Well, if I’d had a protected recycle bin, I could recover those files.
Fortunately, I had run off an MP3 for Erik to hear, so I can use the high-resolution version of that to work from. I hope you’ll bear with us if the sound of our podcast isn’t the best. The next one will be better.

A Couple of Geek Podcast ideas
Posted on October 24th, 2007 No commentsI spend a lot of time alone in my office so I like listening to podcasts. My favorites usually star former castmembers of the long-gone TechTV show The ScreenSavers. But I also look to expand my horizons and try out all kinds of podcasts. I’ve listened to archived radio shows, stand-up comedians, even the odd celebrity news podcast (in a weak moment). But the holy-grail geek podcast is what I am always looking for. Admittedly, any podcast will have a geek of one sort or another involved, just by its very nature. But it’s the content that defines its worth in my opinion. Whoops, ‘scuse me—I mean IMO.
